Introducing Ratna Kusuma Halim, Children's Illustrator

Today I’m introducing the lovely illustrator of Three Little Gnomes and a Boy Named Orion.  Her name is Ratna Kusuma Halim.  She and her husband live in Indonesia with their two lovely daughters.  

Ratna has loved to draw all of her life, but when it came time to think about a career, she was told to forget about drawing and earn a degree that was useful. Ratna pushed her art work into the back corners of her mind, forgot about it, and became a civil engineer.

Interestingly, ART didn’t forget about her! After she had her children, ideas and images started tickling her mind again and were just bursting to get out! Ratna didn’t even know if she could draw anymore. But eventually, she picked up her pencils and the magic started happening. Ratna’s art is colorful, warm, soft, sweet, and lively – she has turned my "Three Little Gnomes" story into something magical!

Ratna has illustrated several e-books, including: Daiku’s New Shirt, Nine Black Ants, Talitha Loves Her Neighbor, and A Story about Two Boys. "Three Little Gnomes and a Boy Named Orion" is her first book to be available in print. All 40 gorgeous illustrations for this story were created by hand and finished digitally. I can’t wait for you all to see it!! Author’s note: I feel like Ratna and I have been dear friends for a very long time and we’ve been holding hands half-way around the world. Working with Ratna has truly been a blessing. We need more friends around the world – we are all so much alike!
